These activated PTKs phosphorylate tyrosine residues on multiple proteins, and the phosphorylations result in the activation of enzymes or creates sites of binding for proteins involved in the activation cascade. Linker for activation of T-cells (LAT) is an integral membrane protein of 36-38 kDa, and upon T-cell activation LAT protein is phosphorylated by ZAP-70 tyrosine kinase. LAT protein appears early in the T-cell development at the thymocyte stage, before expression of terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferease (TdT) in embryos, and throughout their lifespan. It is expressed by NK cells and T cells without restriction to any T-cell subpopulations.
