  • Gene Introduction:
  • There are five classes of mammalian immunoglobulins: IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG, and IgA. The rat IgG antibody has multiple functions including opsonization, complement function, and antibody-dependent cell mediated cytotoxicity. Rat IgG has been further categorized into subclasses: IgG1, IgG2a, IgG2b, and IgG2c. Functionally, Rat IgG1 and IgG2a have been shown to bind complement. This is in contrast to mice where only IgG2a binds complement. In rats, as with other mammals, IgA functions primarily in mucosal immunity. Rat IgM functions primarily as a naïve B-cell receptor and in complement functions. Concentrations of Rat IgM in serum are typically shown to be in the range of 0.6 to 1.0 mg/ml.
